Importing images

Now that you've created the image database, it's time to start importing images. This can be done in two ways, depending on how you wish to administrate your images.

Disregarding folder structure

Navigate to a folder with images somewhere on your harddrive, and simply drag/drop it into the pImgDB window. As soon as you drop it, pImgDB will look through the entire folder (including subfolders), searching for images. You can also select multiple folders and drag them onto pImgDB, as long as you drag them all over at the same time. As a matter of fact, you can actually drag/drop an entire harddrive. Ofcourse, scanning for images might take a while then.

Keeping folder structure

If you wish to keep the folder structure and filenames, this option is much better. First, select the folders you wish to import. Next, right-click one of them and select "Cut" (or use the hotkey, ctrl+x). Navigate to the database folder (db_name in pImgDB's folder) and paste the folder there. This can be done by rightclicking and selecting "Paste" or by the hotkey ctrl+v. Finally, select all the folders you wish to import and drag/drop them into the pImgDB window. From here, continue as if using the first method.

Adding information

While pImgDB is parsing the directories, you may start adding information in each field. As you can see, there are 7 fields. The three first fields (Image name, comment and rating) are static bits of information attached to the image. The four last fields however, namely general, source, chars and artist tags, is what makes pImgDB so efficient to use. Here you can add tags (keywords, basically) separated by commas, and you can do a range of stuff based on these keywords later on.

Tags based on location

If you already have the images sorted in different folders, it would be a shame to lose this organizing. pImgDB can add tags based on the folder structure of the images if you specify what folder names to use. In the example to the right, I imported an image from the path below.

To the left is the tags I entered, to the right what they ended up as.

Let's do it!

Once you're satisfied with the information you've entered, press the Start button. pImgDB will start importing the images, and depending on the amount of images, this may take a good long while. Feel free to do other things while you wait. Once the "Current action" and "Action progress" blank out, it's done. You may go back to the thumbnail view by pressing the Cancel button, the hotkey Ctrl+Home, or by selecting "1 - Thumbnails" in the second dropdown menu up top.
